Hitachi Data Systems Launches New Converged Solutions for Environments Running SAP HANA®

May 05, 2015

Announcing 25 New Appliance Configurations With Blade Servers Powered by Intel Haswell-EX and Haswell-EP Architecture

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – May 5, 2015 – Hitachi Data Systems Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE: 6501), today announced new and enhanced converged solutions designed to provide users with the superior scalability and outstanding reliability and availability needed to support the real-time applications and big data analytics made possible by the SAP HANA® platform.

The newly enhanced Hitachi Unified Compute Platform (UCP) for SAP HANA is available in more than 25 different memory configurations designed for the smallest to the largest single-node implementations of SAP HANA. It combines new Hitachi Compute Blade (CB) 520X B2 server blade, which is based on the new Intel® Xeon® Processor E7-8800 v3 product family, with the newest additions to the Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform (VSP) family. Additionally, support for the Hitachi CB520H B3 server blade based on the Intel Xeon Processor E5-2699 v3 product family is available using the SAP HANA tailored data center integration approach. This provides customers with additional cost savings and flexibility when deploying SAP HANA into their data centers.

Hitachi UCP for SAP HANA is a converged server network and storage system that has been pre-configured, tested and optimized to provide industry-leading, real-time data processing performance in a form factor that can be deployed quickly and easily. The new Hitachi Compute Blade servers, built on the latest Intel processor technology, use symmetric multiprocessing and advanced logical partitioning to deliver superior performance and resiliency for critical analytic processes. When combined with the exceptional reliability and availability of the VSP family, the UCP solutions for SAP HANA offer faster performance at lower costs than previous Hitachi systems.

The Hitachi UCP for SAP HANA can scale up and scale out with the same infrastructure, allowing customers to take their first step on their journey with SAP HANA and grow with their business needs, while reducing the need for infrastructure replacements or upgrades. The SAP-certified scale-up solution offers memory configurations ranging from 128GB up to 6TB and scale-out configuration for 3TB per node.

With the newest additions to the Hitachi VSP family – the G400, G600 – Hitachi has strengthened its support for SAP HANA and delivers a software-defined infrastructure that addresses customer-workload requirements from entry to the mainframe with a single software stack. The powerful software capabilities that are built into Hitachi Storage Virtualization Operating System (SVOS) allow the entire VSP family to offer native heterogeneous storage virtualization and multi-site active-active storage – as well as fully compatible data migration, replication and management. Customers now have the ability to choose systems based on the necessary capacity, performance and price required to meet their business goals, not because of functional difference.

In addition to new Hitachi UCP offerings for SAP HANA, Hitachi and Pentaho together are releasing a Hitachi UCP solution for SAP HANA that allows developers to process and refine big data from any source at scale. The addition of Pentaho technology brings big data integration, orchestration and delivery to enable better business decisions.

Foundational Hitachi technology combined with recently acquired cloud and managed services technologies from oXya and the power of Pentaho to capture, blend and analyze a broad array of data sources to derive new business insights sets the company's solutions apart from other vendors in the industry, helping ensure that organizations can easily translate data into competitive advantage.

Pricing and Availability
The UCP scale-up appliances for SAP HANA and the UCP with Pentaho solution for SAP HANA are scheduled to be generally available worldwide this quarter with the scale-out offering to follow shortly thereafter. Pricing will vary based on configuration.
