Press Release
SANTA CLARA, CA (April 22, 2016) — Hitachi Data Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE:6501), today announced Hitachi Content Platform (HCP) has received high scores in the Gartner 2016 Critical Capabilities for Object Storage report, published March 31, 2016.
Fueling object storage demands are newer investments in non-traditional IT projects and efforts to reduce cost in core enterprise workloads. According to the report, "Infrastructure and operations leaders are attracted by the lower total cost of ownership and the scalability of object storage, whereas enterprise developers are attracted to its programmability, cloud portability and productivity improvements."
In the report, Gartner analysts, Arun Chandrasekaran, Raj Bala and Garth Landers, evaluate twelve object storage products against seven critical capabilities: storage efficiency, interperability, manageability, performance, resilience, security, and multitenancy. The analysts also evaluate the storage products against five use cases: analytics, archiving, backup, cloud storage, and content distribution.
- Hitachi Content Platform (HCP) excels at storage efficiency with built-in capabilities to reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) and increase the effective capacity of storage. Storage efficiency is paramount as organizations evolve beyond traditional object storage use cases, such as archiving, and into cloud and big data analytics, where petabyte-scale or even exabyte-scale is the norm.
- The hallmarks of HCP are its open ecosystem with broad interoperability to support traditional and next-generation workloads simultaneously, and its deployment flexibility with a choice of delivery and consumption models. HCP also excels at hybrid cloud, supporting more choices of supported cloud services including Amazon, Google, Microsoft®, Verizon, Hitachi Cloud, or any S3-based service. This empowers organizations to confidently use cloud storage without losing control or visibility of their data.
- HCP addresses the backup challenge many organizations face because it meets increasing demands for disk-based backup at lower cost. HCP enables organizations to adopt an active data protection strategy to proactively monitor data integrity and repair or rebuild data at risk. In fact, many organizations are able to eliminate backups altogether with HCP's rich data protection and resiliency.
HCP has become the platform of choice among organizations that have the most stringent security, compliance, cost efficiency and scale requirements. Many leading organizations entrust Hitachi Content Platform with their data, including:
- 4 out of 5 of the largest banks in the world
- More than 40% of the first 20 "Global Top 100" Companies
- 4 out of 5 of the largest insurance organizations in the United States
- 2 out of the top 5 World's Largest Media Companies
- 2 of the top 3 Major Premium Cable Networks such as Starz
The stability, longevity and innovation of HCP has led over 1,500 customers to choose HCP.
"We believe being rated #1 in the Backup Use Case by Gartner reflects HCP's tradition as a proven, cost-optimized and open solution for storing massive amounts of data. Indeed, a global insurance company used HCP to create a custom S3-based fraud mitigation application that ensured that data was tamperproof and legal contracts and documents were auditable. The developers originally intended to use a public cloud," said Peter Sjoberg, chief technology officer, cloud and mobility, Hitachi Data Systems. "Upon completing a 30-minute proof of concept to demonstrate the ease with which applications interface with HCP via the S3 protocol, the company found in an internal TCO analysis that HCP delivered 20% lower TCO than public cloud. Another customer, a leading toy manufacturer, determined that HCP's searchability, auditability, and recoverability generated a 270% ROI."
The HCP integrated product portfolio was selected as a TMC 2015 Cloud Computing Excellence award winner in 2015. The individual portfolio products have also received industry accolades. Most recently, HCP Anywhere was selected as a TechTarget 2015 Product of the Year finalist in the enterprise storage system software category. HCP Anywhere also received the TMC 2015 Cloud Computing Excellence Award and the 2014-2015 Cloud Award for Best in Mobile Solutions category.
